A quick trip into Luton
As you arrive at the station there will be two main exits, the lower (on the same level as the platform) or upper exit. The best way into the centre of town is to take the upper exit and use the walkway to Bute street.
As you leave the upper barrier you can either take the walkway to the right which leads to High Town or to left which takes you towards the student village and out onto Bute street.
High town has a certain historic charm - interesting victorian architecture and moody lanes lend it a distinct graphic novel feel well worth visiting.
If you instead take the left towards Bute street from the station you will pass the George II pub, usually there are live bands playing here in the evenings.
From Bute street you will see the Arndale logo in the distance. Walking towards the Arndale you will pass the Hat Factory - Luton's art centre, Great Northern, Easyhotel, Coopers arms and The Wheelrights pub. So already in the space of one short road there is a live music venue, arts workshop, hotel, restaurants (Italian, Chinese and take away), a gay pub and two locals.
Approach the Arndale and walk through the central gallery it is usually left open as the only other way to the town centre would be to walk around the complex. Entering the Arndale you go up the escalators to the coffee shop called Morelli's, continue to the exit.

Leaving the Arndale you are now in George Street. This is the main pedestrianised area and town centre. Here you will find bank machines, Department stores, Mcdonalds, Subway, Food vendors and Shops
At George's street you have two options; Turning right towards the clock tower will take you to the Galaxy, library, tourist information, Bucks Wilds and Wetherspoons (Lloyds Bar) pubs. Turning left will take you to the pubs at the bottom of Castle street i.e. Brooks, Heights, the Castle and further on the university and park street pubs like the Brewery Tap.
Leading from the pedestrianised George's street there are streets like Wellington where you will find many mainly Indian restaurants. Or Chapel street where you will find most of the nightclubs. Walking up Castle street will take you into South Luton where there are many small local and Irish pubs.
Luton has a unique atmosphere very different to the typical middle England stereotype. It is a bit like Gotham City or Mos Eisley with a fascinating mix of cultures, tis here where real life exists!
