Luton is in a valley so its not surprising that very few radio signals reach us. Just try to tune into XFM for example be prepared to buy a big antenna. But that has all changed now with the arrival of Digital DAB radio now there are dozens of stations to choose from!

Why cant we receive this in Luton? It has been two years since I last checked on the availability and still there is none in Luton. Don't we pay the same license fee? Write to the BBC at the following address and demand it or we will be left out! The answer that SKY provide a Freesat service hardly qualifies because SKY can hold back channels like More4 that are free to air so it is not an ideal solution.

What is DAB radio?

DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) is a new type radio that is crystal clear and has dozens of channels to choose from. The stations are not tuned in but simply selected by name. You will need a new receiver which can be purchased from the main electrical goods retailers. Prices typically start at about Ł60. Make sure that the radio has the "DAB" logo because some radios are sold as "digital tuners" these are conventional radios not digital ones. It is a good idea to buy a unit that can also receive conventional FM channels because local channels like BBC Three Counties and Chiltern FM are not yet on digital.
